Mark E. Burt

Mark Burt specializes in real estate transactions including acquisitions, finance, sales, development, leasing and management of commercial, industrial and multifamily properties. Mark also handles real estate and commercial litigation in federal and state courts involving mortgage foreclosures, zoning disputes, real estate title issues, forcible entry and detainer actions, mechanic's lien foreclosures, contract disputes and bankruptcy matters. Mark's 21 years of experience includes: negotiation, documentation and closing of business agreements; loan documentation including asset-based and real estate-based loans; loan workouts; syndications; joint ventures; and asset purchases. Mark is a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Federal Trial Bar. He is licensed in Illinois.

Among his recent accomplishments, Mark:

  • Represented a buyer in the purchase of a $17-million industrial property;
  • Assisted in a $40-million refinance of three manufactured housing communities;
  • Assisted a lender in refinancing a $9-million asset-based loan; and
  • Represented the seller in the sale of a large office building.

Harry O. Channon

Harry Channon is an attorney in the litigation department of Wolin, Kelter & Rosen. While in law school, Harry was specially licensed and tried cases in the Domestic Violence Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County for Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Among his recent accomplishments, Harry:

  • Successfully obtained an award for a Futures Commission Merchant at the first ever arbitration proceeding under the newly enacted "Permissive Arbitration Rule" of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange;
  • Successfully represented a commercial property appraiser on appeal to the Illinois Appellate Court against claims of professional malpractice and breach of contract;
  • Successfully defended a financial advisor against claims of fraud and breach of contract concerning an investment in a company and a six figure promissory note; and
  • Won summary judgment against a plaintiff million dollar defamation lawsuit.

Harry earned his Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School in 2004. He is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Management from Purdue University, where he was also captain of the varsity golf team.

Mark I. Fishbein

Mark Fishbein is an attorney in the litigation department of Wolin, Kelter & Rosen, Ltd. For over 16 years, Mark has litigated commercial, insurance defense, and healthcare cases in state and federal courts, before administrative boards, and frequently appeared before state, federal, and private arbitration panels. Admitted to practice in Illinois, Mark is a member of the bar of the United States District Court for Northern District of Illinois and of the American Health Lawyers Association.

Among his recent accomplishments, Mark:

  • Prevailed in defending an alleged fax blaster in a certified "junk fax" class action lawsuit;
  • Successfully represented a real estate developer enforcing a contract to acquire vacant land;
  • Prevailed on an insurance company to provide defense and coverage for defendant alleged to have intentionally infected a partner with a sexually transmitted disease;
  • Obtained substantial reductions for health care providers against amounts claimed by Blue Cross Blue Shield under the federal Medicare program; and
  • Prevailed in an employment contract case involving a covenant not to compete.
Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts, with Honors, in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Juris Doctor from Loyola University School of Law, cum laude, in 1991 and received American Jurisprudence Awards in Evidence, Administrative Law, Criminal Law and Entertainment and Sports Law. Mark is active in his community coaching youth soccer, baseball and basketball.

Charles R. Franklin

For over 25 years, Charles Franklin has concentrated in general civil litigation, fraud and suspicious claim activity, first and third-party defense and subrogation and other insurance related work and arbitrations. He counsels clients on insurance coverages and disputes and in the presentation of claims. He has often served as a "neutral" or an independent arbitrator being appointed by both policyholders and insurance companies. Charlie also represents professional real estate appraisers and property inspectors in malpractice claims, lawsuits and in disciplinary hearings. Admitted to practice in Illinois, Charlie is a member of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Federal Trial Bar.

Charlie has:

  • Successfully argued before the Illinois Supreme Court on limits of liability and bank and safety deposit box owner obligations affirming the Appellate Court's reversal of a trial court judgment (Jewelers Mutual v. Firstar Bank);
  • Recently assisted clients obtaining restitution and recovery from significant fraud, forgery, embezzlement losses, and for stolen stock certificates, including a medallion signature guarantee STAMP claim;
  • After a "wind v. flood" dispute, recently obtained a policy limits settlement for a Gulfport, Mississippi, beach motel destroyed in Hurricane Katrina; and
  • Successfully represented several real estate appraisers in different disciplinary matters before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

Charlie was appointed to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado by President Gerald A. Ford. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies from the University of Michigan, before graduating with a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami (Florida) School of Law. While at the University of Miami, Charlie served as an associate editor and research editor of the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review. He is AV rated with Martindale-Hubbell. He is a past president of the Casualty Adjusters Association of Chicago and is a board director of the Claims Association of Greater Chicago. He is a frequent speaker on appraisal issues, insurance and liability issues. Charlie grew up overseas, spending his formative years in Southeast Asia, attending international schools in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Bangkok, Thailand; and Jakarta, Indonesia. He is a licensed soccer coach and, for many years, has been active coaching various youth sports including soccer, basketball, baseball and football.

Julie L. Kaminski

Since joining Wolin, Kelter & Rosen, Julie Kaminski has concentrated her practice on financial and business transactions. Julie has negotiated, structured and documented financial transactions on projects involving hotels, motels, multifamily, gas stations and retail shopping centers for banks or companies located throughout the United States. Julie is admitted to practice law in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Among her recent accomplishments, Julie:

  • Represents a lender in the construction financing of hotels and motels on a nationwide basis;
  • Handled hundreds of Small Business Administration loans on behalf of a SBA lender; and
  • Was involved in a workout of a loan to a major printing company

Dr. Gerhard E.W. Kelter, Jr.

Dr. Kelter is head of the firm's European desk and International Practice Group. He received his B.A. degree from the Högre Allmänna Läroverket för Gossar på Norrmalm, Stockholm, in 1960 and his M.B.A. degree in Business Administration and Economics from the University in Stockholm in 1964. After obtaining his Swedish J.K and J.D. degrees from the University in Stockholm, he was admitted to the bar in Sweden in 1968.

In 1968, while on an assignment in the United States for the Stockholm law firm Advokatfirman Lagerlöf, Dr. Kelter accepted a position in the tax department of McDermott, Will & Emery, a Chicago law firm, for whom he worked from 1968 until 1970. Thereafter he accepted an Internship from Baker & McKenzie, a Chicago-based international law firm, where he worked from 1970 to 1972.

In 1971, Dr. Kelter received his American J.D. degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1972. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Since becoming an American attorney, Dr. Kelter has published articles and given seminars on the comparative legal aspects of doing business in the United States. In 1972, he wrote a Swedish manual on product liability law entitle “Lagstiftning och Praxis beträffande Produktansvar i USA” (Product Liability Law and Practice in the U.S.A.), which was published by Sveriges Exportråd (Swedish Export Council). Dr. Kelter has given numerous private and public seminars on various topics including U.S., Swedish and German products liability law and International preventive legal management at the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York City, the Swedish Trade Office in Chicago, the Swedish Export Council in Stockholm, the German-American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago, the German Society for Quality Control in Frankfurt and the American Society for Quality Control in Washington, New York and Toronto.

In 1974, Dr. Kelter reorganized his international law practice and formed Law Offices Gerhard E. W. Kelter, Jr., P.C. in Chicago, which was merged into Wolin, Kelter & Rosen, Ltd. effective June 1, 2006.

Dr. Kelter is a member of the Chicago, Illinois State and American Bar Associations, the Swedish Juristförbundet, the American-Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, the Industrie und Handelskammer in Frankfurt and the German American Chamber of Commerce in Chicago. Furthermore, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors in a dozen corporations engaged in the manufacture, sale and distribution of capital equipment, industrial, hospital and consumer products, nuclear and alternative energy technologies and consultant services, all on an international basis.

Dr. Kelter was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He is fluent in Swedish, German, English and French. He has homes in Chicago, Illinois and Stockholm, Sweden.

Patrick J. Kronenwetter

For more than twenty-five years, Patrick Kronenwetter has represented a wide variety of individual and corporate clients in a broad range of civil and criminal matters. He currently concentrates his practice on advising and assisting foreign businesses doing business in the United States, and those seeking to enter the U.S. market. In addition, he represents clients in regulatory compliance and enforcement matters before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Customs and Immigration Service.


Among his accomplishments, Pat:

  • Served as trial counsel in Commonwealth v. Stenhach, a leading case on the duties of attorneys in possession of evidence received as a result of confidential communications from their clients;
  • Obtained injunctive relief and the maximum allowable jury verdict against the U.S. government for discrimination against a disabled federal employee;
  • Successfully defended a federal court action on behalf of a foreign manufacturer, sued by its U.S. distributor, by invoking international arbitration provisions in an unsigned agreement; and
  • Represented a client in the closing of its unionized manufacturing plant, successfully defending numerous arbitration proceedings filed by terminated employees.

Patrick is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as Note Editor and published contributor to the Law Review. He earned his B.A. degree (with high honors) from the University of Notre Dame. He was admitted to the bars of the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and Illinois in 1978 and 1981, respectively. He is also admitted to the bars of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, including the trial bar, as well as the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Illinois and Pennsylvania State Bar Associations, and the DuPage County Bar Association.

Richard S. Kuhlman

For more than 30 years, Richard Kuhlman has specialized in litigating complex commercial and personal injury cases. Richard is also well-experienced in patent infringement litigation and other intellectual property matters. He has tried many plaintiffs’ cases to verdict, winning multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements in cases involving medical malpractice; brain injury; negligent road design; negligent security planning; crashes involving cars, trains and trucks; and industrial accidents and he has successfully litigated several patent infringement cases before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts in Illinois and Wisconsin.


He has appeared in courts throughout Illinois and the United States. Richard is licensed in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin and is a member of the Federal Trial Bar.


Richard has authored two books and legal authorities, Killer Roads, on negligent road design and maintenance, and Safe Places?, dealing with security issues and litigation. In addition, he is the principal author and editor of the multivolume series on Transportation Facility Negligence published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He has written numerous articles for the ABA Journal, Res Jestae Magazine, Trial Magazine, Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and many other publications and book chapters dealing with litigation issues.


Recently in 2007, Richard:

  • Successfully tried a shattered neck and vertebrae injury case obtaining a six figure verdict at recovery.

A graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, Richard earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. He is a frequent speaker and author on litigation techniques and has conducted numerous in-house seminars for clients on security, transportation and litigation issues.

He has appeared many times on WGN Radio, Channel 11-WTTW and ABC News. Richard has also addressed the Illinois House of Representatives on highway safety issues.


In addition to serving in the past as chair of the Auto Law Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, Richard was the chair of three ABA National Teaching Institutes on road crash litigation. He is also a past chair of the Chicago Area Appeal of the Anti Defamation League of B’nai Brith.

Charles J. Mack

Charles Mack concentrates his practice in financial and real estate transactions. During his more than 20 years of practice, he has represented lenders nationwide on transactions involving more than $5 billion concerning all types of real estate. He has developed the standard loan documents and forms utilized by several lenders on a nationwide basis. In addition, he has assisted real estate developers in all aspects of projects from preconstruction through completion and sale. He is licensed in Illinois, Ohio and Arizona.

Among his recent accomplishments, Charles:

  • Handled all aspects of development and construction of the first pre-cast multistory, condominium building in the City of Chicago;
  • Represented the seller in the sale and lease back of aircraft;
  • Represented the purchaser of a 900-pad manufactured housing community;
  • Drafted and negotiated leases for a regional retail shopping center; and
  • Represented a mezzanine lender for a high-rise office building.

Charles began his practice of law after earning a LL.M. in taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1985. Michael E. Pildes

With 40 years of experience, Michael Pildes represents both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts throughout the country. Michael specializes in litigation strategy and negotiation including domestic relations. He has provided political strategies to various candidates and elected officials, and serves as arbitrator and mediator. He has even negotiated the release of a victim in an international kidnapping incident. Michael is also the general counsel of a multinational manufacturing corporation. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals For The Armed Forces, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, United States District Courts in Illinois and Wisconsin, and the Federal Trial Bar.

Harold Rosen

Harold Rosen represents clients in commercial, financial and real estate transactions. He is also an experienced litigator whose more than 30 years of experience includes regular appearances in the Illinois state courts and in the United States District Courts. He has argued several appeals in both the Illinois Appellate Courts and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He also serves as general counsel to a construction company, a national business valuation company, and the United States subsidiary of a German plastics manufacturing company with facilities in two states and Canada.


Among his recent accomplishments, Harold:

  • Represented a bank in the workout of loans secured by multiple parcels of real estate;
  • Obtained an arbitration award in favor of a general contractor for work performed on a public building;
  • Successfully defended a business owner against attempts to reach his personal assets through citation proceedings based on a judgment against his corporation;
  • Obtained a favorable settlement for a landlord in a wrongful eviction case;
  • Closed the sale and purchase of commercial buildings in Colorado to relocate the Colorado offices of an Illinois corporation; and
  • Defeated requests for preliminary injunctive relief against the new employer of a salesman based on restrictive covenants the salesman had with his former employer.

Jeffrey A. Schulman

Jeffrey Schulman devotes his practice primarily to commercial litigation, white-collar criminal defense matters, and securities and commodities litigation before regulatory agencies and commissions. He represents traders, brokerage firms, brokers and other securities professionals in all facets of their operations and registration and regulatory compliance. In addition, Jeffrey has built an extensive criminal defense practice and successfully litigated in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Tax Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims, and state, federal district and appellate courts throughout the country.

Among his recent accomplishments, Jeffrey:

  • Handled a contract dispute regarding a takeover of a foreign securities exchange;
  • Obtained a reversal of a criminal conviction for money laundering before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit;
  • Successfully represented two attorneys before the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission;
  • Represented a bank in a surety bond claim; and
  • Represented a bank in an accounting malpractice claim.

Jason L. Wolin

Jason Wolin’s practice focuses on construction law, condominium law and related real estate matters, as well as other general business litigation. Jason practices in a wide range of areas. His primary practice involves real estate law. Jason handles the acquisitions and dispositions of property for his personal and commercial clients. He is also well versed in like-kind exchanges. He represents many condominium associations in the Chicagoland area as well as condominium owners in all aspects of property ownership. Jason's practice also involves representing contractors and property owners in mechanics lien issues, litigating the matters if necessary.


While his primary practice involves real estate, Jason also represents various companies in all business related transactions. Jason recently represented a client in a $5.5 million sale of its business to a Fortune 500 company.

Jason earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Arizona prior to graduating from John Marshall Law School with honors in 2000. He is admitted to practice in Illinois. Jason is an active and an executive charter member of the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation, a charitable foundation organized to fight gastrointestinal cancer.

Philip S. Wolin

Since founding Wolin, Kelter & Rosen, Philip Wolin has advised clients on banking law, business, financial services, real estate transactions and complex commercial litigation. He handles cases involving problem loan workouts, accounting malpractice, bond claims and bank fraud. Phil is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Tax Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a member of the Federal Trial Bar.

Among his accomplishments, Phil:

  • Coordinated the formation of an Illinois railroad;
  • Formed and created a regional airport providing service in the Chicago area;
  • Created several national and state chartered banks and lending institutions;
  • Served as special counsel for bank internal audit investigations;
  • Successfully negotiated a $400-million settlement of a securities fraud class action involving six publicly traded entities;
  • Represented clients in major debt restructuring for both lenders and borrowers; and

Phil has a Juris Doctor from DePaul University, where he was both case editor and comment editor of the DePaul Law Review. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.
